A St John Ambulance Cymru course trainer is practicing first aid on a delegate. The trainer is practicing opening the airway of an unconscious casualty. She has one hand placed on the individual's forehead, that is pretending to be the casualty and has tilted their head back slightly. The trainer has placed her index and middle finger of her other hand onto the casualty’s chin.

About the course

Our half day First Aid at Work refresher course is suitable for those who already hold a valid First Aid at Work qualification. It follows the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) guidance recommending that workplace first aiders complete annual refresher training to keep their lifesaving skills up to date. Please note that this is not…

Research shows that ‘skill fade’ is a significant issue for workplace first aiders. Without regular opportunities to practice the valuable procedures learned during initial first aid training, it becomes increasingly difficult to recall them accurately when needed. A refresher course allows you to practice administering first aid at any time during your three year period as a qualified first aider. It is the ideal opportunity to refresh and practice emergency first aid skills and basic life support should you need to use them in the workplace.

A First Aid at Work Update course will give you the confidence to perform lifesaving skills in an emergency, but it will not extend the validity period of your current qualification. If your 3 year certificate is about to expire in the coming months, then you should instead book a place on our First Aid at Work Requalification course (also offered as a blended option). By taking First Aid at Work Requalification training, you can extend the validity of your certificate by a further three years.

We regularly hold the First Aid at Work Update training course at our centres across Wales. We can also deliver the training course at your premises if six or more of your employees require training. For more information, send an inquiry to training@sjacymru.org.uk or ring 0300 201 1999.
