About the course

Oxygen therapy is up to 6 times more likely to save someone’s life than mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. You don’t need to be a healthcare professional to administer it. For the first time, your employees can extend their existing CPR skills by completing our short, straightforward 3 hour Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy course which will teach…

We need to breathe to stay alive, which means air needs to be able to reach our lungs. Airway management is important because it facilitates the passing of oxygen to the lungs when there is an obstruction in the airway. In a first aid scenario, being able to identify if someone’s airway is obstructed and having the skills to help them is a critically important skill and can mean the difference between life and death. Oxygen therapy is a vital part of airway management in trauma. In first aid, it involves providing medical oxygen to someone who cannot breathe adequately on their own. This helps improve their oxygen levels and supports better breathing.

Situations where oxygen therapy may be needed include respiratory distress (such as shallow breathing or labored breathing), respiratory failure (when the lungs can no longer function properly), chronic lung disease, and sudden illnesses such as heart failure or severe trauma.

We regularly hold Airway Management & Oxygen Therapy training at our centres across Wales. If six or more individuals need the training, we can come to you. For more information, ring 0300 201 1999 or email training@sjacymru.org.uk.
