Colin’s Story From The CARTEN100 Challenge

In May 2025, hundreds of cyclists took on the annual CARTEN100 challenge, riding over 100 miles from Cardiff to Tenby. The route offered a mix of stunning scenery, from the bustling streets of Cardiff to the picturesque views of the Welsh countryside and coastline. Participants experienced a challenging but rewarding ride, with plenty of support along the way, including feed stations and event marshalling to ensure safety.

Here’s what one participant, Colin, had to say:

“I became critically unwell whilst participating in a cycle challenge in South Wales in 2018, and the response from nearby paramedics and St John Ambulance Cymru quickly helped me. I never expected to find myself in such a frightening situation, but the quick reaction of those around me made all the difference. Those who helped me did vital work. The fast medical attention I received played an invaluable role, as I had suffered a heart attack. I’m cycling the CARTEN100 to raise money for St John Ambulance Cymru, who need vital donations to continue assisting people who may find themselves in a similar position to mine that day.”

This exciting event will return on Saturday, 9th May 2026, and we’re delighted to offer free charity spaces to participants who pledge to raise a minimum sponsorship of £300 in support of our lifesaving work. In return, you’ll receive a complimentary cycle jersey and finishers’ t-shirt, access to all feed stations along the route, and a meal at the Finish Pavilion in Tenby Harbour.

First aid is essential for saving lives, and the work we do plays a crucial role in keeping communities in Wales safe. Your participation in this event means we can continue to make a difference through first aid in Wales.
