About the course

The IOSH Working Safely course is a brief yet comprehensive 1 day program designed to help participants grasp the fundamental aspects of health and safety responsibilities. It delves into how both individual and collective actions play a pivotal role in shaping health and safety practices within their specific work environment.

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) is the world’s largest health and safety membership organisation. One of its most popular courses, IOSH Working Safely, is internationally recognised and suitable for employees in any industry. This course provides health and safety knowledge for the workplace and raises awareness about the responsibilities of both the employee and employer. Our St John Ambulance Cymru IOSH Working Safely course will teach you in an informative and accessible way how and why to work safely, whether you are a line manager or you would just like an understanding of safety and health at work.

By completing this IOSH course, you’ll learn how to identify common hazards, assess risks, and improve your overall safety performance. Furthermore, the course equips you with valuable insights into managing occupational health and conducting a risk assessment, thereby contributing significantly to your competence in ensuring a safe work environment.

From a wider business perspective, employers will notice greater productivity owing to an increased awareness of safety measures because of this IOSH training. It will also be beneficial from a reputation perspective for many employees to have an internationally recognised qualification.

Once you successfully complete our St John Ambulance Cymru IOSH Working Safely course, you will receive an IOSH working safely certificate at no extra cost.

An IOSH certificate does not expire. However, to avoid skills fade and to ensure that your health and safety knowledge remains up to date, we recommend successful delegates consider retaking the course every 3 years.

The IOSH course that you need is dependent on your specific circumstances. If you only need a basic understanding of health and safety at work and are not in a managerial position, then IOSH Working Safely will be most suitable. Managers and supervisors should instead consider our IOSH Managing Safely course. IOSH Managing Safely lasts 3 days is equivalent to a GCSE.

We offer courses in IOSH Working Safely across Wales at our training centres. Get in touch with us by phone on 0300 201 1999 or email training@sjacymru.org.uk to enquire with one of our Commercial Training agents. If six or more employees require training that rather than visiting us at a training centre, we can come and teach the course at your business.
