About the course

Our 1-Day Food Safety Level 2 Course highlights the importance of food safety and ensures that anyone handling food maintains the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The course will make sure you have the skills and confidence to manage food safely.

St John Ambulance Cymru is a leading training provider for food safety courses in Wales. In the UK, St John Ambulance is one of the voluntary aid societies (VAS) who are recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as standard setters for first aid training in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. We don’t require external accreditation through an Awarding Organisation.

Food handlers are legally required to be trained in maintaining a hygienic environment when storing, preparing, handling, and serving food. Ignoring food safety can lead to the spread of harmful bacteria, causing illness, cross-contamination, and serious consequences for your business including bad reviews, lost customers, or even closure. The Food Standards Agency publicly rates businesses on hygiene. A low score can drive customers away. Therefore, it is imperative your staff are fully knowledgeable about food safety and hygiene. Our food safety level 2 course is an excellent way to facilitate this important skillset.

The difference between a level 1 food safety and level 2 food safety certificate is primarily that level 1 is focused solely on a low-risk environment where employees are only handling food that has already been wrapped. A level 2 food safety course is designed for roles where food is prepared, cooked, or handled directly, and covers how to control food safety risks and ensure safe food delivery to customers. This training is ideal for anyone working with food, particularly those in schools and nurseries, catering businesses, supermarkets and food retail, care homes, food and drink manufacturing, and prison canteens.

HACCP stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point. If you own or run a food business, it’s vital to have a HACCP plan in place. This plan helps ensure that food is safe from biological, chemical, or physical hazards and supports compliance with food safety regulations.
