About the course

This 1-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is suitable for those that look after babies, infants and young children. This practical training course covers the most common childhood illnesses and injuries that you may face while looking after young children. It is very scary if the scenario occurs where you need to help a child…

In addition to the 1-day Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, we also offer a 2-day, 12-hour training course. The 2-day paediatric first aid course must be completed by at least one member of staff in a nursery or professional childminding environment. This is a requirement by law. You will also need to take the 2-day course if you are the sole person responsible for children such as a childminder. The 1-day course is ideal for staff to gain the skills and confidence to provide emergency first aid to infants, as as many people as possible should know how to respond in an emergency.

In Wales the regulator for childcare is Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). Education and training in Wales is inspected by Estyn. These are the equivalent to Ofsted, which covers England. As a voluntary aid society, we provide the guidance on what standards should be. That’s why when it comes to emergency paediatric first aid, St John Ambulance Cymru is the leading provider in Wales.

We teach the Emergency Paediatric First Aid course at our centres across Wales. If six or more employees need training, then we can come to your workplace and deliver the course. For more information, please call 0300 201 1999 or email training@sjacyrmu.org.uk.
