Emergency First Aid at Work

This training is for you if your place of work is small and low risk. This course is also suitable if no colleague has any pre-existing conditions. You will need to complete a first aid needs assessment to identify this. A low risk environment is along the lines of a small office environment or a conference venue. Employees will not be engaging in physical tasks like heavy lifting, or using vehicles or heavy machinery. They will instead be using tools like computers, chairs, and desks. Accidents and injuries can still happen in low risk environments. For example a colleague could have a heart attack, stroke, or fall over and bang their head. In times like this when there is an unresponsive casualty or injury, someone with skills from an Emergency First Aid at Work course is critical.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course takes one day to complete. This is a Level 2 award and will teach a delegate the relevant first aid procedures to provide appropriate first aid and basic life support to someone who is injured or unwell while at work. Our 3-day First Aid at Work (FAW) training course covers more than what is included in the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) training course. FAW offers first aiders the skills to give initial medical care for a variety of injuries and illnesses, including major and minor injuries. That’s why it is a level 3 qualification. Please note that there is no such qualification as level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work.

There is no straightforward answer to this question, as the number of emergency first aiders required will depend on your business’s needs. If there are between 25 and 50 employees in a low-risk environment, you will need at least one fully trained emergency first aider. If your business has more than 50 employees, you will need one staff member trained in the First Aid at Work course for every 100 employees.

You will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate after successfully completing this course. This certificate is valid for 3 years and will enable a delegate to be the emergency first aider for a business. After 3 years, your certificate will expire. When this happens you will need to re-take the course. This will enable you to continue to provide first aid provisions at work. It is always a good idea to refresh your first aid skills to guarantee your lifesaving abilities are up to date.

It is not possible to study this Emergency First Aid at Work course online. This is because the HSE mandates a set number of face-to-face hours as well as enough time to practice the techniques you will learn in the presence of a qualified instructor. Be extremely wary of any provider that says they offer emergency first aid at work training course online, as you will be spending money on something not suitable for your business.
