About us

St John Ambulance Cymru is the first aid charity for Wales. For more than 100 years, we’ve been saving lives, supporting communities, and giving people the skills and confidence to step forward in an emergency.

Today, our St John People continue that mission – working across Wales to provide vital care, training, and reassurance whenever it’s needed most.

What we do

We are a charity powered by volunteers and supported by professional staff. From delivering patient transport and falls response services, to providing first aid cover at major events, our people are out in communities across Wales every single day. Alongside this, we train thousands of people each year in lifesaving skills, helping to create a safer, healthier Wales.

Our history

St John Ambulance Cymru is part of the global St John family, which has been providing first aid and community care for centuries. Since our foundation in Wales, we have grown to become a trusted presence across the nation — from rural villages to major cities. Our history is built on service, but our focus is firmly on the future and how we can continue meeting the needs of communities today.

From frontline first aiders and community responders to trainers, clinicians, and support staff, each person plays a vital role in delivering our services across Wales. Together, they ensure St John Ambulance Cymru is always ready to care for people in need and to share lifesaving skills with communities everywhere.
